Restoring Teeth

Whether it be due to dental decay, trauma or defects, restoration of teeth is a vast and complex within dentistry. There are a number of ways in which teeth can be restored using a number of different materials. Techniques and materials develop and change on almost a daily basis and we ensure that all our dentists are capable of using them all through thorough knowledge of the science in which they work. Our dentists never tire of researching and learning more about what is available within the dental market so as to ensure you are given all the possible restorative options out there.

Invisalign® is the new clinically proven, invisible way to straighten your teeth giving you the smile you the dazzling smile you have always dreamed of.

You wear a series of clear, almost invisible, removable aligners that gradually move your teeth into the desired positions. Our aligners can be removed for eating and cleaning. Each aligner is individually manufactured for your teeth, and your teeth only. As you replace each aligner, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position prescribed by your dental practitioner. Each aligner is worn for 2 weeks.

Invisalign is the best way to transform your smile without interfering with your day-to-day life. Invisalign may look like a straightforward "piece of plastic", but it's so much more. With advanced technology such as advanced 3D scanners and computers and a sophisticated manufacturing process, your Invisalign aligners are custom-made for you, and only you. Over time, your teeth should move to reveal the smile you've been longing for.

Dr Ravi Patel is our accredited provider of Invisalign at Smile With Pride Dental Care. Please use the tabs on the left of the page to find out more about this innovative system of clear braces.

Teeth Whitening

The need for perfectly white teeth is gradually becoming more and more important in today's society. Our dentists can provide you with both in surgery and home bleaching kits to get you the brilliant white smile you have always wanted.

Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment or 'endodontics' is necessary when a tooth's nerve and blood supply becomes irreversibly damaged or infected due to dental decay or trauma.

Root canal treatment involves the removal of the damaged or infected nerve/blood supply from within the root canals of the tooth using hand or automated files and disinfectants to ensure that canal(s) are as clean as possible. The canal(s) are then filled with a rubber material which is both long lasting and biocompatible. Once this has been completed successfully, the tooth is then filled/restored. In some cases a crown or partial crown may be needed to ensure the tooth is protected from our heavy biting forces (see 'restoring teeth' tab for details).

A dental implant is essentially a substitute for a natural root of a tooth. It is commonly constructed from titanium which is a biocompatible material. An implant is usually screw or cylindrical in shape. Each implant is placed into a socket carefully drilled or tapped into the precise location of the intended tooth. The main aim during placement of the implant is to ensure close contact between the implant and surrounding jaw bone. Over time the implant will beome integrated into the surrounding bone and become stable, at which point it is ready for restoration.

Once completely stable, which can take a number of months, an internal screw is placed into the implant which provides the foundation for long-term support of crowns, bridges or dentures.

Replacing Teeth

There are a number of ways in which a tooth or teeth can be replaced. Fixed and removable appliances can be designed and made by our team of dentists and expert lab technicians to give you the most comfortable and natural prosthesis possible.

White Fillings/Veneers

materials otherwise known as 'composite' or 'glass ionomer' are different to silver fillings, as they stick to the teeth, enabling them to be used to repair teeth that have been chipped, broken, decayed and discoloured as well as having the distinct advantage of being extremely cosmetically pleasing on anterior teeth. A tooth that is going to have a white filling requires less preparation compared to a silver filling. However, white fillings are not as strong as silver fillings, which means that they may not be suitable for large fillings in back teeth.

Before a white filling is placed, you dentist will select the correct shade of composite or white filling material from the wide range we have available. Selecting the correct shade is an art that our dentists have mastered through years of experience. Using state of the art bonding adhesives, the composite material is stuck to the tooth and moulded to look natural and as invisible as possible. The results can be quite staggering, just take a look at the photograph below!

Smile With Pride uses one of the latest systems in composite technology known as Gradia. We are proud to have had Dr Jayendra Patel recently complete a Gradia Composite Training Course in Belgium allowing him to provide Gradia Composite restorations of the highest technical and aesthetic quality to our patients.

Gum Treatment

Over time, even with good teeth cleaning, plaque and tartar/calculus can attach to the teeth similar to lime build-up in a kettle or iron. A build up of plaque and tartar can lead to the poor appearance of teeth, dental decay, gum inflammation and bleeding, gum disease and bad breath. As part of good oral hygiene standards, it is recommended to visit the dentist every six months for teeth cleaning and to check up on your overall oral health. Even those who believe and have been told their oral hygiene is excellent may still need scaling and polishing for hard to reach areas. All of us at some point need to have our teeth scaled of plaque and tartar build-up, and then polished to reduce the rate of further deposits.

Teeth Grinding (Bruxism) and Snoring

Grinding and clenching of our jaws is a common subconscious occurrence, which can cause dental and muscle pain of your head and neck. There are a number of classic signs and symptoms to keep in mind to detect whether or not you suffer from a grinding or clenching habit.

Look out for the following:

  1. Do you find yourself grinding, clenching or squeezing your teeth together? This may not be something you notice straight away but if you do occasionally find yourself doing this, come and speak to us.
  2. Have you been told by a partner that they can hear you grinding your teeth?
  3. Do you wake up in the morning with tension and tenderness in your jaw and facial muscles?
  4. Do you suffer from tension headaches and/or earaches?
  5. Do you suffer from limited mouth opening sometimes? Does your jaw lock of click painfully when opening and closing?
  6. Are your dental restorations repeatedly chipping or breaking?
  7. Has a dentist ever mentioned to you that you may be grinding your teeth?

If you have noticed any of the signs and symptoms listed above, please give us a call to book a consultation with our resident specialist Prosthodontist, Dr Hiren Patel.
